  • (Low carbon net news)An Advanced Environmental Biotechnology Center, a joint collaboration between the Nanyang Technological University and the University of New South Wales, was launched in Singapore on Monday.

Singapore's Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment and Water Resources Amy Khor said that the industry has grown by leaps and bounds since 2006 when Singapore government identified the environment and water technologies sector as a key economic growth engine.

Khor said that the center will further meet the environmental and water needs for Singapore and the region, as its niche research in biotechnology is in line with the needs of both modern used water and potable water treatment technologies.

She added that there is a need for international collaboration as strong international research and development (R&D) linkages are also important to facilitate knowledge transfer and to boost local R&D efforts, adding that the opening event is an important milestone as the collaboration allows both institutions to pool together top research talent and R&D resources to develop new innovative water and wastewater technologies.
